The Constitutional Club is an expert forum to discuss the problems and possibilities of constitutional development in Russia. Constitutional Club unites many "founding fathers" of the post-soviet Russian statehood, members of the constitutional process of the late 1980s and early 1990s, prominent lawyers, political scientists, historians, sociologists and economists. Constitutional Club has an expert, interdisciplinary, cross-party, inter-generational character.

About Constitutional Club

Constitutional Club has an expert, interdisciplinary, cross-party, inter-generational character. Constitutional Club is an expert discussion forum to discuss problems and perspectives of constitutional development in Russia.

Club was founded in the summer of 2012 in connection with the public's demand for constitutional changes and is one of the projects of the Russian Foundation for Constitutional Reforms (RFCR).

"The relevance of the proposed problem is connected with the strategic interests of Russian society, the need to strengthen the legitimacy of state institutions, and the need to move to implement the basic constitutional principle - democracy." (Oleg Rumyantsev)

Membership

The Chairman of the Club is Oleg Rumyantsev, President of the Russian Foundation for Constitutional Reforms. Constitutional Club unites many "founding fathers" of the post-soviet Russian statehood, members of the constitutional process of the late 1980s and early 1990s. (O.Rumyantsev, S.Baburin, L.Volkov, S.Glotov, V.Isakov, M.Krasnov, V.Lafitsky, V.Mazaev, L.Mamut, Z.Stankevich, B.Strashun, M.Mitukov, A.Tsaryov, V.Chirkin, I.Shablinsky, V.Sheynis, K.Yankov) well known constitutionalists, political scientists, sociologists, historians, economists, and philosophers (S.Avakyan, A.Avtonomov, A.Vorobyov, A.Degtyarev, A.Domrin, V.Evdokimov, M.Matytsin, A.Medushevsky, N.Rozov). Public, governmental and political figures as Yu.Boldyrev, A.Golovin, V.Igrunov, I.Ponomarev, M.Remizov, I.Starikov, V.Terekhov are also attended at the meetings of the Club.

The Club also represents younger generation of the constitutionalists such as S.Stanskikh, M.Ayzina, A.Didikin, A.Karnaev, T.Larionova, A.Maksimov, T.Ospanov, Yu.Safoklov.

Meetings

The Constitutional Club is based on the Russian Foundation for Constitutional Reforms. The main discussion relates to the Russian constitutionalism.

In 2012, there were five meetings of the Constitutional Club. In the first and second meetings (July 19 and September 5, 2012) the Club discussed following topics: public demand for constitutional reform, possible directions, format and criteria for the constitutional process, the Constitution as the basis for national unity, debates between liberals and traditionalists on the image of a desired future.

At the third meeting, October 3, 2012 discussion was about the problems of the constitutional principle of democracy and the necessary mechanisms for its implementation. The fourth meeting was held on 31 October 2012 and was devoted to discussion of the constitutional basis of the economic system of Russia and the constitutional principle of the social state.

The fifth meeting of the Constitutional Club was held on the Constitution's Day, December 12, 2012 and discussed the problems of the constitutional state, the legal status of the individual issues, as well as "20th anniversary of the Constitution of the Russian Federation program for the Russian Foundation for Constitutional Reforms".
