Thanjavur is a taluk of Thanjavur district of the Indian state of Tamil Nadu.

Overview

Within the tuluk are the municipality of Thanjavur and the towns of Nanjikottai, Vallam, Neelagiri, Pudupattinam, and Vilar.

The headquarters of the taluk is the town of Thanjavur, which is also the seat of the district administration. It has two revenue blocks: Budalur and Thanjavur.

Demographics

According to the 2011 census, the taluk of Thanjavur had a population of 510,411 with 253,723 males and 256,688 females. There were 1012 women for every 1000 men. The taluk had a literacy rate of 78.51%. Of the children less than six years of age, 23,251 were male and 21,749 were female.
