History
The subdistrict was created effective August 1 1984 by splitting off 3 administrative villages from Hat Ngio.
Central administration
The tambon is subdivided into 4 administrative villages (muban).
Local administration
The whole area of the subdistrict is covered by the subdistrict administrative organization (SAO) Tham Chalong (องค์การบริหารส่วนตำบลถ้ำฉลอง).
