Thalpunoor is a small village, located 12 km south west of Nagarkurnool, Gopalpet Mandal and Mahbubnagar district, India, situated in between 16.406 degrees northern longitude and 78.242° eastern latitude.

Demography

Thalpunoor is a completely agricultural-dependent village. The main crops are corn, jowar, rice, cotton and castor. More than half of the population is categorized as completely backward people. The majority of people follow Hinduism, few people follow Islam, but the village people are very secular. Many Hindu devotees go to nearby dargha every year. The main source of drinking water is bore wells, main source of irrigation are Nallachervu (a small lake), Ramasamudram, chittanachruvu and bore wells, these days farmers are hoping to get water from the canals from Kalwakurthy irrigation project. This village was predominantly ruled by Reddy caste people.

History

Initially Thalpunoor was under the rule of queen of Gopalpet who are related to wanaparthi and on the top king of Nizam. Zamindar named kuchukulla family ruled over some period and flew to USA as there are allegations on them.Finally Grudhanti Ramchandra reddy and his brother Grudhanti Bal reddy controlled the village and it was hand overed to there descendants Grudhanti Madhusudhan reddy and Grudhanti Buchi Reddy. After a decade it went into control of politicians and mostly Grudhanti Family play Major role

According 2001 census total population was 2,991, male constitutes 1,520 and female 1,471, literacy is just above 31.13%.There are Lawyers,Engineers, Doctors,politician's from this village.

  • Pongal is very popular festival in this village, people go to temple,located outskirts of Thalpunoor and Peddapur villages, with their highly decorated bullock carts,then they make 3-12 rounds around the temple,what they believe is auspicious to their cattle and their land,later they attend a fair nearby.
  • Dasara is also very popular festival in this village.
  • Many Hindu devotees attend the Dargha festival along with Muslims every year, which occurs around October month. Dargha is a holy place for Muslims.
  • Kota Mashamma Festival is done once in a year.During this festival animal mainly he buffalo is sacrificed to the goddesses of village.
  • Politics

    Thalpunoor is categorized politically as a panchayat for easy governance, this village is also not an exception to the common Indian village, where they give more importance to politics than their lives. TDP, Congress are the main political parties.
