Its gymnasium is adorned with banners representing many years of athletic achievements. Historic sports moments for Terryville include six state basketball championships. Art Hamm coached the team to Connecticut state high school basketball championship victories in 1983 and 1984. The most recent basketball title was won in 1995 on a 3-point shot at the buzzer by Dennis Fowler. The varsity boys' basketball team finished their 2008−09 season with an undefeated record of 20−0, making the first basketball team, first boys' team, and second overall team in school history to have an undefeated season at Terryville High School; the first team to have an undefeated season was the girls' volleyball team in 2000.

In 1991, Phil Lyga coached his soccer team to a co-champion Berkshire League title. Tom Morgan coached the golf team to six BL championships in 1993, 1994, 1997, 1998, 1999, and 2000. Jerry Daniels and his wrestling teams won several Berkshire League titles and coached many state champions like Alex Skempris, Kevin Higgins, Paul Higgins, Tony Piazza, Tom Yale, and Diego Quintero. Ryan Gorack, the last kangaroo state champ and 3x state open place winner, was coached by Kevin Higgins who thrived under Jerry Daniels' program. The Terryville softball squad was a very dominating team which came very close to winning the state title in 2008. Ashley Hogan and Bethany Grimes received all-state for the season.
