Themes

Sundfør said in an interview, "When I first started to work on the album, I wanted to make an album about violence, and then, as I was writing the songs, there were violent aspects, but they were usually about love or relationships, how you connect with other people. And in the end, that turned out to be 10 love songs."

Critical reception

At Metacritic, which assigns a weighted mean rating out of 100 to reviews from mainstream critics, Ten Love Songs received an average score of 87, which indicates "universal acclaim", based on seven reviews. Writing for The Guardian, Michael Hann deemed it a "quite brilliant album" and summarised it as "both appealingly direct yet perfectly thought-through". The reviewer for Sonic Seducer wrote that throughout the album Sundfør's vocals stood out among the arrangements of orchestra and dancefloor style.
