Telford Park School is a coeducational secondary school located in Stirchley, Telford, Shropshire, England. The school was first established in 1976 under the name of Stirchley Upper School, it was later renamed The Lord Silkin School.

Contents

The school provides educational focuses on a range of topics such as Mathematics, English, Science, Information Technology, Design Technology, Physical Education and Religious Education, as well as options that students may pick themselves during the later years.

History

In April 2013 The Lord Silkin School converted to academy status and was renamed Lakeside Academy. The school became part of the Telford Co-operative Multi-Academy Trust. The New Academy also came in with a change of uniform, that went into place September 2012.

However, in April 2015, the school failed its Ofsted inspection, and was placed in special measures. Starting in September 2015, the school had a new academy sponsor, the Community Academies Trust, and was renamed "Telford Park School".

The old school building is set to be knocked down as new school buildings were opened in September 2015. The new buildings (which were started in mid-2013) include a sports centre, sixth form, and a post 16 centres.

In September 2015, the new school building was opened for business and the involving school moved in almost immediately. The old building is now undergoing demolition. The new school includes a sports centre, sixth form and other facilities for the students and staff officials.

Anti-bullying policy

Following the April 2014 death in his bedroom, of a 12-year-old pupil whose parents alleged that he had been the victim of bullying, the school stated that it had "an anti-bullying policy which includes generic sections for both staff and students", with "the section for students put together by the students themselves", and says they are "well established procedures for supporting young people at the school."

With the death of this pupil, the school received a lot of backlash and was highly criticized by the local community for its failure in maintaining anti-bullying policies. The school was once seen as one of the most highly recognized schools within its area but is now recognized as once of the lowest. Trevor Goddard was reportedly fired by the governors of the school soon after and a new principal was elected.

Weekend education

The Telford Japanese School (テルフォード補習授業校 Terufōdo Hoshū Jugyō Kō), a weekend Japanese educational programme, is held at Telford Park School.
