The Sunday Times Tech Track 100 is one of seven lists of top performing British companies in a variety of categories. Published each September by British newspaper The Sunday Times in their business section, the lists are compiled by Fast Track, a British research company. For the Tech Track, the top 100 private technology, digital media and telecoms (TMT) companies are ranked based on their average sales growth over the previous three years leading up to the award year.

Contents

The Tech Track was first published in 2001 and a mention on the list has come to represent "a mark of distinction" for British companies. A place in the rankings helps to boost publicity. Companies that have previously appeared on the list have moved on to forge a strong position in the market, some even becoming household names.

The most recent Tech Track 100 list was published on 16 September 2012, as a supplement in The Sunday Times, with title sponsor Hiscox. Previous title sponsors were BDO in 2011 and Deloitte in 2010.

Criteria

Companies that have made it on the Tech Track rank typically:

  • are privately owned and run by entrepreneurs, families or senior executives.
  • are primarily technology, telecoms and digital media providers
  • have between 20 and 200 staff
  • have average 3 year sales growth ranging from 40% pa to 280% pa
  • have sales ranging from £5m - £50m
  • are based primarily in Britain
  • 2012 Tech Track 100 list

The 2012 Sunday Times Hiscox Tech Track 100 league table ranked the top 100 of Britain's private technology, digital media and telecoms (TMT) companies that demonstrated the fastest sales growth over the preceding three years, between 2008 and 2011, or between 2009 and 2012. Hiscox, an insurance service provider, was the title sponsor for the 12th annual awards, held in London and published in the Sundays Times newspaper on 15 September 2012.

The 2012 Tech Track included a new category, Ones to Recognise, for the first time since the inaugural awards in 1997. This is a list of five companies which demonstrate strong potential but did not make it into the top 100 spots.
