Tata Safari Storme (or Storme) is a SUV manufactured by Tata Motors. The vehicle was unveiled in Jan 2012 during the 11th Auto Expo 2012 and was launched in Oct 2012.

History

Tata Safari Storme was unveiled in Jan 2012 and launched on 17 Oct 2012. It is built on Tata Safari platform and is an upgraded version of Safari. Storme is taller, wider and longer when compared to its predecessor. Although the engine displacement is the same (2,179 cm3), Storme produces more power (10 Bhp) than Tata Safari.

Variants

Tata Safari Storme comes in four variants, viz LX, EX, VX and VX (4X4). The VX variant comes with both 4X2 AND 4X4 drivetrain with the VARICOR 400 engine churning out 156 ps and 400 Nm of torque. The other variants comes with an engine with 148 horses and 320 Nm of twisting force. All variant have identical ground clearance of 200 mm and turning circle diameter of 10.8 meter. This body on frame rear wheel drive vehicle has a seating configuration of 5+2 with last row having two jump seats.

Military Applications

  • In december 2016, Indian ARMY chose SAFARI STORME as the army vehicle as they retire the MARUTI GYPSY from its long term service. Safari beats out Mahindra Scorpio winning the bid after some gruelling tests done on them in the Himalayas.
  • Once official, this will be Tata's second major deal with the army this year, having bagged a ₹ 1300 crore deal to supply high-mobility military trucks to the army.
