Production of the boat was commenced in 1972 by Tanzer Industries of Dorion, Quebec. The company entered bankruptcy in May 1986 and production had ended by then.
Design
The Tanzer 28 is a small recreational keelboat, built predominantly of fiberglass, with wood trim. It has a masthead sloop rig, a transom-hung rudder and a fixed fin keel. It displaces 6,500 lb (2,948 kg) and carries 2,400 lb (1,089 kg) of ballast.
