History
Tantasqua Regional High School was founded in 1952. A new high school was completed in 2002. The school derives its name from Tantiusques ("tan-tas-qua"), a Nipmuck word meaning "to a black deposit between two hills."
Athletics
Tantasqua has varsity teams in baseball, basketball, cheerleading, cross country, field hockey, football, golf, indoor track, lacrosse, soccer, swimming & diving, track & field, tennis, and volleyball.
In 2007, the boys' basketball team captured the MIAA Division II State Championship. The following season they made it to the MIAA D-2 State Finals again, only to lose in a rematch with Catholic Memorial.
The varsity football team won the state championship, going undefeated (13-0) in 2008. The varsity football team won only six games in 2007.
The varsity baseball team won the Division II state championship in 1977.
Marching band
In 2007, direction of the Tantasqua Warrior Marching Band was taken over by Music Director Lucy Colwell, who is also director of the Tantasqua Junior High School band program. In 2008, Colwell brought in Massachusetts drill designer and creative consultant Nicholas McKenzie to assist with the marching band program. Under this joint leadership, the group has evolved from a "park-and-play" band to a true "corps-style" field show marching band.
Media
There is currently one school newspaper at Tantasqua, The Tomahawk, which is produced by its own after-school club and students in the journalism classes. Students also air a weekly program on the local public-access television cable TV channel titled T.W.N.,Tantasqua Weekly News. Published once a year is the literary and creative arts magazine, Passages. In addition to these publications is the yearbook, The Tantasquan, which also publishes a blog on its website.
