Trivia

On 16 November 1997, a Japanese side secured a place at the 1998 FIFA World Cup after winning a notable playoff against Iran in the Malaysian border town of Johor Bahru, a short drive from Singapore. A golden goal by Masayuki Okano secured a come-from-behind 3–2 victory in front of a pro-Japan crowd at the iconic Larkin Stadium.
