History

The Tamil Nadu National Law School is a University established to provide quality legal education by the Tamil Nadu National Law School Act, 2012. The School is located in a 25-acre campus in the -Tiruchirappalli (Trichy) - Dindigul NH 45 and 9.6 k.m from Tiruchirappalli (Trichy) Railway Junction, at Navalurkottapattu in Srirangam constituency, Tiruchirappalli (Trichy), Tamil Nadu, India . The Tamil Nadu National Law School is a residential university established with the initial contribution of Rs.100 crores from the Government of Tamil Nadu.

The Noble Vision and the brain child of the Hon’ble Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu Dr.Amma is realized with the establishment of the first Tamil Nadu National Law School with International Standard at Srirangam (TK) in Thiruchirappalli district.

The foundation stone was laid by the Hon’ble Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu Dr. J Jayalalithaa on 13 February 2012. The school is the first national level institution in the state of Tamil Nadu to disseminate learning and knowledge of law, legal processes, advocacy and skill in judicial administration keeping pace with the changing global scenario and to meet the challenges brought about by globalization.

The school is known for steady growth in all sphere's of academic and co-currcular activities and it has been taking huge leaps to hold as top 10 law Schools in India Theis declared open for admission in the academic year 2013-2014 by the Hon’ble Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu Dr. J Jayalalithaa at a function held in Srirangam on 3 June 2013. Adequate infra structural facilities like Administrative, Academic, Amenities, Examination and Library Blocs, Halls of residence for boys and girls students, Games and Sports, Wi-Fi Facility, Health Care Centre, Bank, Moot Courts Halls, Mess, Gym, Examination Hall, Auditorium, Faculty and Staff Quarters as well as Guest House have been constructed with international standards. The University Grants Commission has included the Tamil Nadu National Law School in the approved list of Universities.

To begin with the Tamil Nadu National Law School is offering a five-year integrated B.A.,LL.B (Hons.) Degree Course with an intake of 100 students. Efforts are being taken to expand the academic programmes and Research in the years to come.

Health Centre

The Tamil Nadu National Law School being a residential University admitting 200 students for the U.G. Program from different parts of the country, takes more concern for health care of the inmates of the school. To provide health service, the TNNLS has made arrangement by engaging a medical practitioner Dr.V.P.Sarasu M.D., D.G.O., who visits the health care Centre the amenities block at the appointed time every day. The Students can consult the doctor for medical treatment. Arrangement is also made to take the student who needs immediate medical care to the nearby private hospital in the absents of the campus doctor.

One of the primary objectives of The Tamil Nadu National Law School is to imbibe a sense of Social responsibility in the minds of its students. To promote this object a legal aid center's is established in the very first year of its formation. Mr. Justice M.Jaichandren inaugurated the legal aid Centre on 18 March 2014 in the TNNLS. Since then, legal aid clinic has become functional on every Wednesday entertaining petitions received from the poor and the needy people in the neighboring areas. The District Legal Services Authority Sends their panel advocates rendering free legal advice to the people. The Students are immensely benefited by participating in the legal aid Centre.

Banking facility

An understanding is reached with UCO Bank, Navalur Kuttapattu branch for opening of a bank branch in the Amenities block of the Tamil Nadu National Law School very shortly. An ATM Centre is already functional in the Campus.

Sports

As a healthy mind needs a healthy body The Tamil Nadu National Law School, has evinced keen interest in providing sports facility for the students. To starts with, indoor facility for Table tennis, Carrom, Chess, Ball Badminton and shuttlecock. Effects are taken to build a sports stadium within the campus.

Canteen

A Canteen facility is provided in the amenities block which is open from 11 am to 10 pm. One can get soft drinks, snacks and refreshments. With increase in intake of the students in the coming years, the canteen facility can be expanded.

Inter-University Competition

The university will be hosting its 1st Inter-University Law Fest : "LAFESTO'17" - March 17 to 19, 2017 organised by the Legal Aid Committee of TNNLS
