Tamakeri (玉蹴り) (lit. ball kicking) or [Ballbusting] is a sexual fetish and subgenre of BDSM within which a man's testicles are abused. The genre is also referred to as ballbusting ("bb" for short). Originally popular in Japan, it has now spread all over the world. Tamakeri is the Japanese term, but it is used by many non-Japanese as well. The dynamics of tamakeri are attacks on a specific part of the male anatomy, namely the testicles, and the genre appeals to sadistic women as well as to both hetero- and homosexual masochistic males. With the advent of the digital age, the viewership of this fetish has increased rapidly, accounting for more than around five million people approximately around the world indulging in this fetish. First wave (1990s–2001)
The first wave of tamakeri ballbusting websites to appear on the internet were sites like Velvet Kick, Tamahimeden (defunct), Spikey Step, Stardeck9 (defunct) and Femaledom. They often had very poor video quality, made little money, had no plots or stories, and often featured ordinary looking people wearing masks. They were the pioneers of a then unestablished and unknown area of human sexuality, the expression of which was greatly aided by the anonymity of the internet.
Second wave (2002–2005)
The second wave on the internet were websites like British Bitches (defunct), Vulneraballs (defunct), M-Club-Q, Kinkeri.co.jp (defunct), USBBonline (defunct), Goddess-Kicks (defunct), Ballbusting Universe and Ballbustingworld. This era was characterized by better cameras and camerawork, seemingly higher production values, the introduction of plots or scenarios, much higher range of wardrobes, uncovered faces, better designed websites, and prolific content. Third and current wave (2006–present)
The third (and current) wave expands on the forms of both the first and second wave, and can be divided into three basic categories: homemade, studios, and social. With the advent of websites that host and sell user uploaded video clips, many thousands of people have created their own homemade tamakeri videos. While these low-cost homemade videos became popular through an easily accessed outlet, there emerged websites, such as ClubDom, which to many set the bar for what a bb studio should be in terms of variety and quality. This wave has also seen several websites which emphasize the social aspect of the ballbusting sexual identity, with forums, chats, and places to post personal experiences. Cause
The cause is the same with any BDSM activity involving the inflicting of pain for pleasure. During the activities, the practitioners may feel endorphins comparable to the so-called "runner's high" or to the afterglow of orgasm. These endorphins cause the brain to misinterpret this unique pain as pleasure and cause sexual arousal in practitioners. There is no general mechanism for performing activities related to tamakeri. However, it is observed that the incorporation of sadistic threats and more painful kicks or knees to the testicles by the female (in heterosexuals) increases one's arousal drastically. The power of submission to the dominant can also be a "turn-on" factor for sadists or sometimes masochists as well. Similar to its parent term, BDSM, it can have some risks if chronically practiced.
