Rikuzentakata high school before and after the tsunami

Takata-matsubara (高田松原) is a nationally designated Place of Scenic Beauty in Rikuzentakata, Iwate Prefecture, Japan. Selected as one of the 100 Landscapes of Japan during the Shōwa era, there were some seventy thousand pine trees along a two kilometre stretch of beach within the Rikuchū Kaigan National Park. One tree was left standing after the 2011 Tōhoku earthquake and tsunami.
