Takoaka Castle (高岡城, Takoaka-jō) was a Japanese castle in Takaoka, Toyama Japan. It was originally constructed in 1609, and was only used for a few years before being dismantled. The site of its ruins are now a park. The castle is designated one of Japan's Top 100 Castles by the Japanese Castle Foundation.

History

The castle was originally constructed by Maeda Toshinaga in 1609, following the destruction of Toyama Castle by fire. The castle was then decommissioned in 1615, so had a very short period of usage. It was demolished under the one castle/one domain policy of the Tokugawa shogunate.

Current site

The ruins of the castle are mainly just stone walls. The ruins sit at the Takaoka Kojo Park, which was established in 1875. The park's cherry trees are the town's major location for cherry blossom viewing.
