Band introductions tahoka freeway

Tahoka Freeway was an extremely popular bar band from State College, Pennsylvania, during the 1970s & 1980s. Their genre of music was a mix of country and rock, popular at the time. Included in their sets were covers of Kinky Friedman's "Waitress, Please Waitress," Louis Jordan's "Barnyard Boogie," and "Choo Choo Ch'Boogie," popularized by Asleep at the Wheel.

In 1981 the band released a 45 RPM record containing "Light Rain" and "Scenery"; both songs received airplay on local radio. "Light Rain" was re-released on a 1994 CD, "QWK TOUR - 25 Years of State College Sound Checks", released to celebrate the 25th anniversary of radio station WQWK-FM. The members included Terry Whitlock, A.J Sottile, Marc Lewis, Andy Jackman, and Fred Curdts. And also former members Larry Bish and Wayne Addleman, who left to join and tour with the Bellamy Brothers band as its pedal steel player. Wayne continued to tour with the Bellamy Brothers for over a decade.

The band was reportedly named for the Tahoka Highway (US Highway 87), located in Lubbock, Texas, a dry county that is home to Texas Tech University. A strip of the highway outside of the City of Lubbock was home to a string of liquor stores.

Whitlock died on January 11, 2013 at his home in Twin Falls, Idaho.
