Syed A. B. Mahmud Hossain (1916 – 2 August 1981) was a Bangladeshi lawyer and jurist who served as the 2nd Chief Justice of Bangladesh.

Early life and education

In 1916, Syed A.B. Mahmud Hossain was born in an aristocratic landowner of Laskarpur Union in Habiganj district of British India. His father name was Syed Abdul motakabbira Abul Hossain.

Career

Justice Hossain was elevated to the High Court of Bangladesh on 18 January 1972 and after the formation of the Supreme Court of Bangladesh he was elevated to the Appellate Division on 18 December 1972. In the context of retirement of Justice Abu Sadat Mohammad Sayem, the honorable President of Bangladesh appointed Syed A. B. Mahmud Hossain as Chief Justice and on 18 November 1975, he took the oath as Chief Justice. On 31 January 1978, he retired from the post.

Family

His son Syed Dastgir Hossain is currently serving as a Judge of the High Court Division of the Supreme Court of Bangladesh.

Death

Mahmud died on 2 August 1982 at Dhaka, capital of Bangladesh.
