The Sydney Bioethics Program at the University of Sydney is a joint initiative between the Centre for Values, Ethics and the Law in Medicine (VELiM) in the Sydney Medical School, and the Unit for the History and Philosophy of Science in the Faculty of Science.

Background

The program offers post-graduate and professional development courses designed to address the issues in life sciences and biomedical technologies for theorists and researchers in the humanities and social sciences including research ethics and ethics in public health. Development of the program and the teaching within it are shared between the Sydney Medical School and the Unit for the History and Philosophy of Science, with foundational units of study covering philosophical, sociological, and legal approaches (amongst others) to bioethics.

Units available include Human and Animal Research Ethics, Ethics and Mental Health, Philosophy of Medicine and Ethics and Biotechnology: Genes and Stem Cells .
