The Swedish Chamber Orchestra (Swedish: Svenska Kammarorkestern) is a Swedish orchestra based in Örebro. Founded in 1995, it has its home stage in Örebro Concert Hall. It was established in May 1995 by merging a string orchestra, the Örebro Kammarorkester (Örebro Chamber Orchestra) with a wind ensemble, the Örebro Kammarblåsare (Örebro Wind Ensemble). The orchestra has 38 full-time musicians and has been led by music director Thomas Dausgaard since 1997, and violinist Nikolaj Znaider as conductor since spring 2009. Karin Rehnqvist was composer in residence in the early 2000s. The orchestra has recorded over 50 CDs on the BIS Records, Simax, Naxos Records and Hyperion Records labels.
