Plot

Season I

Topper of the Year is an inspiring, rousing coming of age tale of a generation of youngsters studying at DPSC (Devendra Pratap Singh College), a prestigious college in Delhi. It's a humorous and riveting campus drama that states that there's more to this Facebook generation than iPod and low-waist jeans. It showcases how Suvreen faces difficulties and finally becomes a fashion designer.

Season II

Season 2 follows how Suvreen leaves her home, struggles and finds a foothold in the fashion industry. She still is not so established but while trying to make a mark she still faces many problems in different fields. She also adopts the name Pepper Pathak and runs her own brand, hiding it from everyone except her boyfriend Yuvraj and roommate Soni. The story showcases how she solves all her problems, maintains a balance between her home and work and tries to make everyone happy including her parents, boyfriend and friends. She goes to Paris for her four-year course. She returns to Kathgodam, India and opens her own boutique. On the day of inauguration Yuvraj proposes marriage and she happily accepts.

Suvreen Guggal

Suvreen Guggal is the protagonist of this show. She is a gorgeous but simple 19-year-old girl from Kathgodam. Suvreen topped her 12th Board Exams with 89%, but in DPSC she is one of the many, many toppers. With big dreams, she aspires to get admission to DPSC, the best college in India. She is determined, thought-provoking, naive and righteous. Her interests are singing, thinking, solving other people's problems, making friends, studying, and listening to music. After realizing her natural calling towards fashion designing, she leaves her current subject, economics, and joins the course against the wishes of her father. She faces a lot of trouble and even has to earn her fee for the course. But her father soon realizes her dream and supports her. Soon she ends up in a relationship with Yuvraj, whom she loves immensely, and tries to win her father's approval for him. Her father realizes his mistake of approving Suvreen's relationship with Yuvraj and asks her to leave the house. After a misunderstanding created by Alisha, Suvreen and Yuvraj patch up. After moving to Mumbai and working at Iris, a fashion company owned by RC, she meets new people from different backgrounds. She faces a lot of problems. While her family was suffering from a financial crisis she was forced to make her own label, Pepper, and hides it from everyone but her boyfriend and roommate. Manini takes control over Iris by means of trickery, but Suvreen with her determination gets it back. After that she goes to Paris for her four year fashion course. She returns to Kathgodam, India and opens her own boutique. On the day of inauguration Yuvraj proposes marriage to her and she happily accepts.

Yuvraj Singh

Yuvraj Singh is the male lead of Suvreen Guggal - Topper of the Year, played by former model Shivin Narang. Yuvraj is a 21-year-old Haryanvi young man full of desi style that no girl can resist. He has a grudge against the consumption of alcohol, as he lost his friend in a car accident caused by a drunk driver. He feels that whomever his parents will choose to be his wife, will be his choice. He prefers country girls rather than urban ones. He doesn't like any kind of nonsense shown towards girls, curiously especially towards Suvreen. He has never had a girlfriend and somehow Suvreen appeals to him. He has realized that he likes her, but has not found a good opportunity to tell her. He is afraid that their relationship would break their friendship. He soon confesses his love to Suvreen but ends up in another problem of getting the approval of her parents. Alisha, who also loves Yuvraj, manipulates his thoughts making him do things that he actually doesn't want to do. After some misunderstandings created by Alisha, they both separate and choose their separate paths. Yuvraj soon realizes his love for Suvreen and reconciles with her. Yuvraj is also very possessive towards Suvreen and really hates Samar, a.k.a. Maddy, because Suvreen always talks about him, which makes Yuvraj jealous. This leads him to come to Mumbai and join Iris as a model, thus being with Suvreen and keeping their relationship strong. Manini and Alisha both create misunderstandings between Suvreen and Yuvraj and cause them to separate, but at the end their love and bond bring them together.

Alisha Deewan

Alisha is also a student in the fashion course. She is rich and hates being recognised by her mother's name. She is very ambitious. She calls herself a winner and thinks she is the best, though in reality is a spoilt brat and snob. Suvreen calls her "miss I am the best". She meets Yuvraj at the college campus and is very impressed by him as they both like cars and they both have named their cars, Laila and Princess respectively. She has started liking Yuvraj a lot. As Yuvraj and Suvreen are dating each other now, she holds a grudge against Suvreen. She is trying to separate Yuvraj and Suvreen as she thinks that Yuvraj can love no one except her. She intentionally revealed the fact of Suvreen and Yuvraj's secret Valentine's Day date to Mumbai to Suvreen's dad by showing him their photos on Facebook. Alisha tries to separate Suvreen and Yuvraj forever but can't do it. She becomes the model of the calendar. Once she tries to get close to Yuvraj, and Suvreen sees them, which causes a rift between the lovebirds. She confesses her love to Yuvraj and says how Suvreen has tricked him. This makes Yuvraj furious. Later she joins hands with Manini and helps her to destroy Iris and Suvreen to get back at Yuvraj. When everyone finds out that she has been cheating them from so long, she is fired from Iris.
