History
Super 8 Cynics started out in 2009 as a "disparate group of session musicians" put together by singer-songwriter Ady Hall as part of a solo musical project. Several tracks were recorded with different musicians before the final line-up was chosen and work began on recording Hall's solo album. However, following a year spent recording in the studio, the musicians bonded musically. Discovering they had found their "ideal bandmates", they decided to form a band.
The first Super 8 Cynics gig took place in January 2011 and the group continued gigging throughout the year, including appearances in Manchester, Liverpool, London, Bolton and Preston.
The Laboratory Project
In March 2011, the band were contacted by The Laboratory Project - a label run by ex-Ministry of Sounds director Tony Rigg - to appear on the Tastemasters 2 compilation, touted as a showcase of the North West’s top talent. The band chose to contribute the track "Hollywood Lied" and in May 2011 performed at the official album launch at former Joy Division and New Order bassist Peter Hook’s Factory nightclub.
Longevity Records
In April 2012, the band signed with Manchester record label Longevity Records. The group's first single, a cover of "Bitter Heart" by Seona Dancing, was released in August 2012. The band also toured festivals including Tyldesley, throughout the summer.
Influences
Super 8 Cynics are inspired by both contemporary music including The Temper Trap and Ellie Goulding as well as 1970s and 1980s groups such as Duran Duran, Depeche Mode, Roxy Music, A-ha, Japan, Ultravox and The Police.
