Sunil Mendis is a Sri Lankan corporate executive. He was the eleventh Governor of the Central Bank of Sri Lanka and a former chairman of Hayleys Group of companies.

Educated at Royal College Colombo, he is a member of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants. Joining Hayleys he went on to become its Chairman of the Group of companies, one of the Sri Lanka's oldest and largest conglomerates. After retiring as Chairman he was appointed as Governor of the Central Bank on 4 July 2004. He has been on the board of over 100 companies and several State Institutions in Sri Lanka as well as overseas. He retired from the position of Governor on 30 June 2006, only two years into a six year term, following the election of President Mahinda Rajapaksa. Mendis then took on a role as a Director of Cargills (Ceylon) PLC.
