History

Suja means "long, beautiful life". It was founded by four San Diegans from different walks of life.

Co-founder Annie Lawless had been juicing from a young age. Her friend Eric Ethans had a background as a raw food chef and spent his entire life researching and pairing ingredients to create healthy meals. The two met in San Diego; frustrated by the lack of pure, organic products on grocery store shelves, they decided to create their own juices at home.

James Brennan, an award-winning restaurateur, met Eric and was instantly hooked on his homemade juice. Jeff Church, a Harvard MBA and successful social entrepreneur, was known for his role as founder and CEO of Nika Water, a social enterprise that donates 100 percent of its profits to clean water projects and poverty alleviation around the world.

These four came together to form Suja Juice, with a mission to distribute top quality organic and non-GMO juice. Through the large-scale use of organic, non-GMO fruits and vegetables, and implementation of a displacement technology called High Pressure Processing (HPP), Suja Juice has become the nation’s leading organic and cold-pressured juice brand.

In August 2015, The Coca-Cola Company took a 30% minority stake in the company for approximately $90 million, and signed a deal for Suja Juice products to be sold via Coca-Cola’s distribution network and produced at Coca-Cola's bottling facilities, without changing the products' recipes.

In September, 2016, Suja was listed as the Fastest Growing Food & Beverage Company in Inc. 500.

Products

All Suja Juice products are made from organic, non-GMO fruits and vegetables, and are vegan, kosher, gluten-free, dairy-free and soy-free. They use BPA-free, PETE plastic bottles for packaging and source locally to reduce their carbon footprint.

Suja Juice has 5 product lines: Suja (including their 1-Day Renewal), Classic (including their 1-Day, 3-Day and 5-Day Fresh Starts), Elements, Probiotic Waters & Drinking Vinegars. They use High Pressure Processing (HPP), also known as Cold Pressure, instead of high heat pasteurization, to extend shelf life and help maintain essential vitamins, minerals and enzymes. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration has recognized HPP for preserving freshness and increasing shelf life without adding preservatives. The process also eliminates harmful bacteria while yielding a higher nutrient count.

Suja Juice products are sold in the United States at retailers including but not limited to Whole Foods Market, Target, Kroger, Safeway & Amazon.com. Its website includes a product locator and online ordering.
