Costello starred in the self-titled television series, Costello on Fox, where she was also a producer and the co-creator of the show.

Costello has also appeared on television shows such as NYPD Blue and Tough Crowd with Colin Quinn on Comedy Central. She was a guest host on NBC's Later, and has also performed on Comedy Central's "Premium Blend". She was originally cast as the bartender replacement for Coach Ernie Pantusso on Cheers but was fired prior to appearing on a live taping.

Costello has appeared in the films Southie, Once in the Life and The Fighter.

Costello appeared in NBC's Last Comic Standing in 2004, making it to the finals, and can be heard on Episode 172 of Marc Maron's podcast, WTF.
