Biography
Sudabeh Mohafez was born in 1963 in Tehran to a German mother and an Iranian father, and grew up there. In her family they spoke German, Persian and French. In 1979, in the wake of the Iranian Revolution, the family moved to West Berlin. Sudabeh Mohafez studied music, English studies and pedagogy. She worked at various Non-governmental organizations in the field of violence prevention. Having started in 1999, she started to make literary contributions to magazines and Anthology, and she lived from 2001 as a literary editor, translator in and director of writing workshops in Berlin. After a few years living in Lisbon, she works today as a freelance writer in Stuttgart.
Sudabeh Mohafez is author of narratives, novels and theaterplays. She received several literary scholarships and received in 2006 the Adelbert von Chamisso Prize. In the summer semester 2007, she received the Poetics lecturer: young authors of the RheinMain University of Applied Sciences. In January 2008, her literary blog was awarded with the Isla-Volante Literature Prize, while in May of the same year she won the MDR-Literaturpreis.
