Stoliczkia is a genus of snakes in the family Xenodermatidae. The genus contains only two species, one from Northeast India and the other from Borneo.

Etymology

The genus is named after Ferdinand Stoliczka, Moravian-born zoologist who later worked for the Geological Survey of India. Many subsequent publications have used the spelling Stoliczkaia. However, Stoliczkia is considered valid because it was repeated twice in Jerdon's original publication, rendering a spelling error unlikely. Moreover, the name Stoliczkaia is now preoccupied by Stoliczkaia Neumayr 1875, an ammonite genus.

Species

There are two species:

  • Stoliczkia borneensis (Boulenger, 1899) — Borneo red snake, Stolickza's stream snake
  • Stoliczkia khasiensis Jerdon, 1870 — Khasi earth snake, Khase red snake
