Stevia cultivation in Paraguay

Between the main countries cultivadores of the Stevia rebaudiana or ka'to have'and stands out the Paraguay, with a surface seeded of 2.300 hectares that produced 3.680 tonnes in the year 2014 according to estimates of the National Direction of Censuses and Statistics of the Ministry of Agriculture and Ganadería (quoted by Acosta, 2015,p. 3) . The Paraguayan departments that have greater performance (kilograms by hectare) are San Pedro, Caaguazú, Itapúa and Alto Paraná.

Exports

The exports of the extracts of stevia (especially edulcorantes) and of the leaves during the period 2007-2014, reached a total accumulated of USD 7.600.000. Between the main destinations of the stevia Paraguayan in the 2014 found the European Union (47%), China (37%), United States (1%), Mercosur expanded (11%), European Union (47%) and Rest of the World (4%) according to data of the Observatory of International Economy of the CADEP (2007-2014,quoted in Acosta,2015,p. 7).

Companies and employment devoted to the rubro

Victor Galeano,Silvio González and Jorge Velázquez (2010,quoted by Acosta,2015,p. 5) they say that in the 2010 existed in the country roughly 40 companies devote to the rubro that employed in total to some 20.000 people between the production, industrialisation and export. Between the most stood out companies devoted to the rubro find Steviapar S.To, Purecircle South America S.To, NL Stevia S.To, Nativia Guaraní S.To, during the period of 2007-2014.
