Stephen Mitchell (born 1943 in Brooklyn, New York) is a poet, translator, scholar, and anthologist. He is married to Byron Katie, founder of The Work.

Education

Stephen Mitchell was educated at Amherst College, the University of Paris, and Yale University.

Career

Mitchell’s translations and adaptions include the bestselling Tao Te Ching, Gilgamesh, The Iliad, The Odyssey, The Gospel According to Jesus, Bhagavad Gita, The Book of Job, The Second Book of the Tao, and The Selected Poetry of Rainer Maria Rilke. He was introduced to his wife in 2000, and is coauthor of two of her bestselling books: Loving What Is and A Thousand Names for Joy.
