History

Stella Matutina College of Education was established in July 1961 as a minority teacher training college, and received UGC recognition in June 1972. It is affiliated to the University of Madras.

Stella Matutina College of Education is a Catholic college, under the management of the Franciscan Sisters of the Presentation of Mary. Stella Matutina is run by a College Governing Body, Board of Studies, Academic Council, an Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC), and committees.

Education philosophy

Stella Matutina College of Education offers teacher-training courses in Bachelor.Ed, Master.Ed, Master.Phil, Ph.D., Aerobics, Spoken English and Computer Applications. The aim of the college is to give students a foundation in the theoretical and practical aspects of teaching.

Before graduating, teacher trainees are required to develop talents in oratory, writing, sports, singing, dancing and other aesthetic and creative pursuits.

Recognition

In April 2000, the college was accorded 5-star accreditation for producing quality teachers, by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council.
