Stefano Casertano (Rome, Italy, May 25, 1978) is an award-winning filmmaker, author and novelist residing in Berlin, Germany. Casertano heads the movie company "Daring House".

A former political scientist and journalist, Casertano has been nominated "Italian Young Leader" by the Council for the United States and Italy and "Junior Fellow" by the Aspen Institute.

Life and career

Casertano holds a B.A. and M.A. in Economics and Business from Libera Università Internazionale degli Studi Sociali Guido Carli of Rome, and attended the Rai School of TV and Radio Journalism in 2004–2005. In 2011 he completed a Ph.D. "Magna cum Laude" at the University of Potsdam in International Politics and held a teaching position at the same University, and in 2012 he spent a period as visiting scholar at Columbia University, at the Middle East Center of the School for International and Public Affairs.

Casertano joined Milan-based business newspaper Linkiesta in 2010 as international correspondent. In 2012 he started a weekly column on the German newspaper The European, syndicated on RealClearWorld and Project Syndicate. Casertano has been regular guest on the German talk-show "Quadriga" at the English and Spanish editions of the international public broadcaster Deutsche Welle. He appeared also on BBC World Service, SkyNews, RaiTV.

In 2012 Casertano founded the movie company "Daring House". His first production as director "The Last Days of Tacheles" has been selected for the official competition of the Rome Independent Film Festival and the Salento International Film Festival, and received a "Honorable Mention" recognition at the International Berlin Film Awards in 2014. His 2016 film "People of Love and Rage" ("Gente di amore e Rabbia") won the DocFeed Film Festival in Eindhoven and received a Special Mention of the Jury at the Rome Independent Film Festival and has been selected by the Venice Film Week and the Broadway International Film Festival.

His production "The Ballad of the Homeless" directed by Monica Manganelli won the LA Short Fest being therefore shortlisted for the Academy Awards selection. The Ballad of the Homeless also screened in Cannes (Short Film Corner), has been a candidate for the "David di Donatello" awards in Italy, and won a "Nastro d'Argento".
