Stas (Stanislav Vladimirovich) Zhitsky (Russian: Станисла́в Владими́рович Жицкий’) is a Russian designer and jeweller.

Biography

In 1985 – 1986 studied at the art studio of Dmitry Lion.

From 1986 worked as a stage artist (scenography and costumes), book designer and illustrator. By the early 1990s Stas has designed and illustrated over 30 books, including four special editions of short stories by Daniil Kharms (1991).

In 1989 – 1995 actively engaged in various contemporary arts, including the “ART-BLYA” group. Participated in over 30 exhibitions (10 of which were solo) in Europe and Russia.

Also in 1990’s he worked in the field, later to be called fashion industry - as a stage artist of fashion shows and everything related to it, such as art-direction and administration.

From 1994 freelanced as a graphic designer and print advertising designer.

OPEN!Design

in 1996 in partnership with Sergey Kuzhavsky founded the "OPEN!Design” studio (from 2002 – "OPEN!Design&Concepts").

Notable projects of Zhitsky and Kuzhavsky include: “Rich” juice packaging, “Az” vodka, watches, T-shirts and packaging. They also developed a lot of large scale conceptual projects, whose realisation was doubtful: “Watch Museum” - building in the form of a watch; reconstruction of Lubyanka square in Moscow and its conversion into a Childhood World square with a merry-go-round in its centre. At the same time, they realised a major exhibition complex «T-Modul» [1].

In summer 2005 Zhitsky and Kuzhavsky were mentioned in press globally thanks to their design of Renault Formula-1 team. it was based on Japanese Ink wash painting style.

Total number of awards and citations - over 30, including:

GOOD DESIGN Award by Chicago Athenaeum Museum of Architecture and Design for “Rich” juice packaging

RedDot Award 2009 for the Diamonds Inside jewellery collection.

In 2008 (together with Sergey Kuzhavsky) and other partners - launched a new jewellery brand OPENJART. The main concept of the new brand was departure from the traditional jewellery design while maintaining the highest production standards and using high-quality gemstones, faceted in a traditional or revolution ways.
