St. Paul the Apostle Church is a Roman Catholic church established in 1935. It is a part of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Los Angeles, the largest diocese in the United States. The church's clergy, the Paulist Fathers and the Daughters of Mary and Joseph, are also active in the school community and aid in the school's theology program. Both the church and the school are named after St. Paul the Apostle.

Contents

St. Paul the Apostle School is a Roman Catholic coeducational K-8 school in Los Angeles, California. It is affiliated with St. Paul the Apostle Church, which is located on the school campus. Colloquially known as "St. Paul's," the school is adjacent to the community of Westwood, Los Angeles, and admits students from the greater Los Angeles area. St. Paul's is also affiliated with the National Catholic Educational Association.

Mission

St. Paul the Apostle School is a Catholic community of faith, committed to the development of the whole child. The lay and religious faculty share responsibility with the parents for the students' education, growth, and well being. The school provides a challenging curriculum taught from a global perspective, by innovative and dedicated educators. The student population is drawn from the parish and surrounding communities.

School Learning Expectations

St. Paul's aims to develop the student in the following areas:

As a Faith-Filled Person

As a Contributing Member of Society

As a Self-Directed Person

As a Critical Thinker

As an Effective Communicator

As an Aesthetically Aware Individual

As a Health-Conscious Individual

After School Activities

St. Paul's provides access to many different kinds of after school care, including athletics, orchestra, theatre workshop (grades 4-8), and musical theatre. Its various clubs include a chess club, which participates in various tournaments, and a debate club, which is a member of the Middle School Public Debate Program (Pacific Coast League). The school's students also have an opportunity to join the Paulist Choristers of California, a choir group that has toured the world and has appeared with several prominent musical figures, such as the Los Angeles Philharmonic, the Los Angeles Master Chorale, the Los Angeles Opera, and the Music Angelica Baroque Orchestra.

Foundation and Endowment

The school has accumulated an endowment of approximately two million US dollars. These funds are used to maintain high-quality faculty, lower tuition, and finance school improvements. The endowment is managed by the SPA foundation, a non-profit organization whose goal is to maintain the highest standards of education for students of the school. The SPA foundation works with Parents Working for Children (PWC), an organization of the students' parents.
