The St. John the Baptist Cathedral (Spanish: Catedral de San Juan Bautista) also called San Juan Cathedral It is the mother church of the city of San Juan, in the South American country of Argentina, which was dedicated to St John the Baptist.
It is currently one of the most modern cathedrals in the country and was inaugurated on December 16, 1979 and designed by architect Daniel Ramos Correas and Carlos Enrique Vallhonrat. The Whole Complex of the present Cathedral Church of St. John is located in the same place and orientation occupied, until the earthquake of 1944, the former largest church in the province.
The first cathedral was built by the Society of Jesus in 1712. In 1944, an earthquake struck the province of St John. The Cathedral was one of many buildings damaged. A new cathedral was completed in the late 1970s
