St. Claret College

Origins

Educational activities at the Bangalore campus began in 1987 with the establishment of St Claret School. The second phase of the growth of educational mission was the opening of St. Claret Pre-University College. After the pre-university college was established, the third phase of growth was the launching of St Claret College, as an affiliated college of Bangalore University in 2005.

Growth

SCCB began with 50 students and 3 full-time faculty in 2005, It has grown t 1,000 students and 50 full-time faculty staff. The college has a three-storeyed building facility, an 800 capacity auditorium, seminar and conference halls, a library with over 15,000 books, round the clock wi-fi facility, sports grounds for football, cricket, basketball and volleyball and coaching facilities in athletics and sports.

Add on and diploma programmes

SCCB provides a number of add on and diploma programmes for the skill development of the student community. These are aimed at developing the efficiency and competitiveness of students in the areas of commerce and management, language skills, computers and information technology. Links and collaborations

The college has made links and collaborations with a number of institutions. Four programmes have been launched in collaboration with external agencies:

In association with The Institute of Cost Accounts of India (ICAI), SCCB has established a coaching centre which is open not only to students of the college but also to all nearby aspirants to ICAI exams. With some external experts, the institution's faculty members are also involved in teaching and co-ordinating the programme.

The college has entered into an memorandum-of-understanding with Samvit Academy for chartered accountancy]) and company secretary courses to be held in the premises for the benefit of the students and for those from outside.

In association with SAP India and AMITech India Private Ltd., SCC offers SAP 01 & B1 programmes in the campus. At the completion of the requirements, students receive a certification of participation of SAP India.

A memorandum-of-understanding has been signed with the International Skill Development Corporation in the UK to provide Association of Chartered Certified Accountants and Chartered Institute of Management Accountants)programmes in the campus.

A link has been established with Talentease corporate training company to provide employability skills to all students. A 32-hour training programme spread over semesters IV and V will be conducted by experts from industries and the corporate world. This training programme, named Headstart Advantage-U, will help students find employment in reputed companies.

The college has also entered into an memorandum-of-understanding with Aptech Computer Education, to conduct Certified.Net programming and other programs for the students of theComputer Science department.

Placement and career guidance

SCC's Placement and Career Guidance Cell assists students to explore employment opportunities and new career avenues. A full-time officer supervises the training and placement programs in the campus. The Cell helps in the professional development of the students by training them towards employability skills such as resume building, group discussion and interview skills which in turn helps the students to move into a desired profession. A good portion of the training is carried out by experts from industries and the corporate world. Campus recruitments are organized throughout the year. The selection process generally begins with the pre-placement talk by the human resources of the firm or organization providing the students with insights into the company profile, job profile and career path. The talk is followed by the actual selection process, i.e. written test, group discussion and interviews. SCC's graduates are placed in companies like HP, WIPRO, Infosys, TCS, Accenture, Cognizant, IBM, Mindtree, ORACLE, Mphasis, Tech Mahindra and HCL Technologies.

Extension activities

A number of extension activities are initiated by all the departments and through associations like Social Action Forum, National Service Scheme, Women's Cell, E-Cell, Environment Club and the Christian Students' Association.
