Introduction
The Archdiocese of Los Angeles founded the school in 1963. Classes began with 70 students. Over the years members of both the Sisters of Notre Dame and Franciscan Order have provided leadership and instruction. The first lay prinicpal, Marc Groff, was named in 2007. Because of monitored growth and wise guidance over the years, the school now serves about 600 students from around Ventura County who attend classes on campus.
Academics
Classes are rigorous and comprehensive to meet the California state requirements and recommendations for admission to the California State University system. Four years of religious instruction is required of every student. The School's Mission statement reads "Graduates are prepared to live their lives spiritually, intellectually and socially to meet the challenges encountered in their lives." Of note is the fact that 99% of the recent graduates were college bound, and trends have shown that 90% of the graduates complete college. Recent Advanced Placement course offerings were: Art, Biology, Calculus AB, English Language Spanish Language, Spanish Literature, U.S. Government and U.S. History.
Athletics
St. Bonaventure, which has a Seraph for its mascot, is recognized for its outstanding athletic program, especially in football. In the Channel League, where St. Bonaventure was the only private school in a league of public school teams, St. Bonaventure never lost a Channel league football game since it was admitted in 2002. However, St. Bonaventure had to forfeit its undefeated league championship in 2009 due to playing an ineligible player. St. Bonaventure has won seven CIF-SS titles since 1999, including three in Division IV. They have also won back to back California State Championships in 2007 and 2008. After the 2009 season, St. Bonaventure, along with fellow Ventura county private school Oaks Christian, was moved into the Marmonte league. However, the Seraphs continued their success, as they became Co-Champions of the league in their first year with Oaks Christian and Westlake. Each finished with a league record of 8-1. Football is not the only dominant sport at St. Bonaventure. Baseball has been making a name for themselves in the past years. Winning 8 TVL championships in the past 10 years with a CIF-SS Finals appearance in 2006. Softball is also making a name with 4 consecutive league champsionships currently 2013-2016 and two back to back CIF championships in 2014 and 2015. They also made a semi final run in 2016 but were ranked no. 1.
