Sri Sairam Engineering College, Chennai, established in the year 1995 by Late MJF.Ln.Leo Muthu, Founder Chairman of Leo Muthu Education Trust, is a non-profitable, and non-minority institution. The college started functioning from 1996 at a temporary location in Valasaravakkam in the suburbs of Chennai. Sairam moved to this 25 acre campus at Sai Leo Nagar,West Tambaram Chennai in 1998.

Controversies
There have been many instances reported in the local and national media where the school officials were accused of physical and mental torture. The administration is known for taking a totalitarian stance towards dress code and blatantly sexist practices in a co-ed environment. In March 2016, it was reported that a student committed suicide after the school took disciplinary action on the student forcing parents to meet with the officials before he was allowed to continue education.
