Spurwink Services is a nationally accredited 501(c)3 non-profit organization with a mission to provide behavioral health services and special education for children, adults and families. Established in 1960, Spurwink has years of experience providing residential and community-based services for individuals with emotional, behavioral and developmental challenges. With over 900 caring professionals working throughout Maine, Spurwink serves approximately 6,000 children, adults and families each year. Through its Outpatient and Community Services (OCS) division Spurwink offers Targeted Case Management for children and adults, TIP (Transitions to Independence) TCM for youth in transition, Treatment Foster Care, Functional Family Therapy, Public School Counseling, Trauma Systems Therapy, Home and Community-based Treatment including outreach to youth and their families experiencing homelessness, a Failure to Thrive Program, Autism diagnostic evaluations, Integrated Behavioral Health Services at Martin’s Point Primary Care, and outpatient therapy through a large affiliate network.

In addition, Spurwink operates a therapeutic preschool; six schools/day treatment programs for children and youth; day treatment for adults with intellectual disabilities and Autism Spectrum Disorder; 50 residential treatment programs for children, adolescents and adults; treatment for co-occurring disorders; a Traveling Autism Consultation Team; a statewide forensic Child Abuse Program; the Cumberland County Children’s Advocacy Center; an outpatient mental health clinic for adults with Serious and Persistent Mental Illnesses; and a Professional Development Center for mental and behavioral health professionals. In all of its endeavors, the agency’s goal is to provide innovative and strengths-based services that empower individuals, with their families and communities, to realize their optimal potential.
History
Spurwink was founded in 1960 in Portland, ME and served 8 boys. Today, Spurwink has 37 active homes serving children, and another 18 homes serving its adult program. Spurwink's 6 special education schools serve children ranging from 5 to 21. Spurwink's values remain the same: Developing positive self-regard in those they serve by honoring and respecting who they are, and then building upon the strengths of the individual and the family.

Spurwink has locations in Adroscoggin, Cumberland, Franklin, Kennebec, Lincoln, Oxford, Penobscot, Sagadahoc, Somerset, Waldo, and York Counties, serving children, adults, and families across Maine.
