The club was strong through the 1860s, and won the Athletic Sports Committee Challenge Cup in 1866. Weaker by the end of the 1860s, the clb merged in 1873 with St Kilda Cricketers and formed part of the St Kilda Football Club, which exists today in the Australian Football League. A team from South Yarra continued to play in the Victorian Junior Football Association from 1874.
