The South African Institute of Professional Accountants (SAIPA) is a professional association of accountants based in South Africa. As of 2016, the institute had more than 10,000 members.

Qualification

The requirements for membership are:

  • Academic: A Degree with a major in financial accounting and with tax, management accounting, auditing and commercial law as subjects.
  • Practical training or experience: at least 3 years under a SAIPA recognised Learnership, or 6 years of relevant verifiable experience.
  • SAIPA Professional Evaluation: This is a three-hour examination offered twice yearly covering [1] Financial Accounting, Auditing, Taxation, Commercial Law, Management Accounting and Practice Management.
  • Associated organizations

    SAIPA is a full member of the International Federation of Accountants (IFAC) and the Pan African Federation of Accountants (PAFA). SAIPA has reciprocal agreements with national and international bodies. Members of foreign bodies wishing to become a member of SAIPA and who wish to practice in South Africa have to meet the full membership requirements of SAIPA in all respects. A reciprocal membership agreement alone may not allow anyone to practice in South Africa until these requirements are met. (IAAER). SAIPA members are eligible for membership of the Institute of Accounting and Commerce.
