The sooty ringlet (Erebia pluto) is a member of the Satyrinae subfamily of Nymphalidae. It is a high-altitude butterfly found in the Alps and Apennine Mountains on heights between 1,900 and 3,000 meters in Austria, Germany, France, Switzerland, Italy and Slovenia.

The wingspan is 32–40 mm. Adults are on wing from June to August. There is one generation per year.

The larvae mainly feed on Festuca, Poa annua and Poa minor.
