Sooronbay Sharipovich Jeenbekov (Kyrgyz: Сооронбай Шарипович Жээнбеков, [soːrɔnˈbɑj ʃɑˈripɐvit͡ʃ d͡ʒeːnˈbɛkəf]; born 16 November 1958) is a Kyrgyz politician, and the Prime Minister of Kyrgyzstan since April 2016.

Early life and education

Jeenbekov was born in Biy-Myrza. His brother, Asylbek Jeenbekov, is also a politician. Jeenbekov attended the Kyrgyz Academy of Agriculture in Skryabin, graduating in zoological engineering. In 2003, he completed further studies, graduating in economics from the Kyrgyz National Agrarian University.

Career

Jeenbekov worked as a livestock farmer, and also went into politics. He became a Deputy of the Assembly of People's Representatives in 1995. In 2007, he became the Minister of Agriculture, Water Resouces and the Processing Industry. In 2010, he served as the Governor of the Osh region, and in 2015, he was appointed as Director of the State Personnel Service. In March 2016, he was appointed as First Deputy Head of the Presidential Administration, before his current appointment as Prime Minister of Kyrgyzstan.
