Family name
As a family name, Soo may be written with two different hanja, one meaning "water" (水; 물 수), and the other meaning "shore" or "bank" (洙; 물가 수). The former has two bon-gwan, including Gangneung, Gangwon-do in what is today South Korea. The latter has one bon-gwan, Gimhae, Gyeongsangnam-do, also in what is today South Korea. The 2000 South Korean census found 199 people with these family names.
