Entertainment Career
Bonilla is known for her roles in Mexican telenovelas, such as Chabela in Y mañana será otro día, Macrina Romero in Mi adorable maldición, and Mercedes “Doña Meche” Reyes in La Gata.
She appeared in Conan Without Borders: Made in Mexico in 2017. The show was made in response to the heightened tensions between the US and Mexico and featured an all-Mexican staff, crew, guests, and audience, which included Bonilla.
In 1993, she played alongside Diego Luna – an actor who later became known for his roles in Rogue One (2016) and If Beale Street Could Talk (2018) – in the movie A Sweet Scent of Death.
In a 2016 interview, Bonilla shared that, at a certain point in her career, she wanted to do more visceral work and became more selective with the film and TV shows she took on. She said that one script she felt compelled by was for the movie In The Light (2017), where she played Amelia Cortez.
As of 2021, her most recent TV series role is in Fuego ardiente as Soco.
Early Career
In a 2016 interview, Bonilla said she started her 8-year career as an announcer for Televisa, a Mexican mass media company.
Awards
In 1994, Bonilla was nominated for Best Supporting Actress at the Ariel Awards for her role in the film La vida conyugal.
Education
She graduated from the National Institute of Fine Arts in Mexico. There, she met her husband, the late Hector Bonilla, and became interested in theater.
Family Life
Socorro was previously married to Hector Bonilla, a known Mexican actor and director, who passed away in November 2022 after years of battling cancer. Hector was a voice actor for the characters Tio Philippe and Tio Oscar in the Spanish dub of the Disney film Coco.
