Social Diary Daily is an American magazine published in Tuscaloosa, Alabama by Mann and Associates. The first print issue was printed and released in December 2010 featuring cover model, Holly Robinson Peete.

History

Social Diary Daily was founded by Melissa Russell. Prior to creating the print issue, Melissa Russell, created and produced Social Diary Daily as an online radio talk show. The show ran online for 4 seasons before Russell decided to discontinue the show and create the print magazine. Social Diary Daily began in 2007 as an online network between friends. Established and operated by Melissa Russell, the Daily Diary connected with over 15,000 online participants on a daily basis. Fill in the blank questions, comments or thoughts were e-mailed for daily responses. From this daily questionnaire, a yearly calendar was formed and distributed to all of the online participants. In 2009, the Daily Diary became Social Diary Daily Online Radio Talk Show and began broadcasting twice a week on the online radio station Artist First. The one-hour show would discuss all types of social issues, inviting the 1.2 million listeners to interact with the show by calling in during its broadcast. Special guests would co-host the show with Mrs. Russell. The show traveled to three major cities. Miami, Florida resulted in the largest participation. After 4 seasons, Melissa Russell, the Executive Producer of the show, decided to bring the show to the printed pages of a magazine. The first issue was published in December 2010.

Content

The content of the magazine is centered around helping women deal with problems and providing everyday solutions, benefits, options and alternatives. The magazine is known for its true life stories of people who are not known by the public. Each issue's cover is embraced by the founder or active participant of a charitable cause. The magazine does not feature any articles, stories or advertisements that have a religious or political background.

The brand

Social Diary Daily's brand is known for being "Everything Social". In 2011, the brand developed a line of herbal fruit teas, appropriately called Social Teas. Later the brand created Social Coasters to accompany the tea purchases or which may be purchased separately. The coasters may be used as greeting cards, trivia, party favors, business cards, or thank you gifts.

Philanthropy

Melissa Russell is a firm believer in volunteering and lending a helping hand to others. She began volunteering at the Children's hands On Museum in Tuscaloosa, Alabama at the age of nine and has continued without letup every since. In 2007 she co-founded Business Savvy Women's Group which aided kids who had fallen victim to their parents incarceration. Later that year Mrs. Russell founded an association helping teenagers locate summer employment. In 2009, Russell founded the Paper Dolls Foundation aiding girls ages 5–15 with various social issues. In 2010 Melissa began teaching a free summer cooking course to boys and girls. Russell has also been an active volunteer at the Trumpet Awards, for the Girl Scouts, Heart to Heart Foundation, the Boys and Girls Club and has donated her time and energy to helping Caring Days, an adult day care center for elderly adults with Alzheimer's.

Awards

Social Diary Daily magazine received two consecutive awards for being "Socially Involved" in the community and another award for "Best Story Features". Melissa Russell was named the Girls Scouts Woman of Distinction in 2009. In 2011 Russell was recognized by the Good Well Giving Group for her philanthropic efforts.

Influential Honors Ceremony

On the anniversary of the magazine, December 7, Social Diary Daily host an Influential Awards Ceremony honoring those who have embraced the covers of the magazine and their philanthropic work. Previous honorees have been Holly Robinson Peete and the Holly Rod Foundation Cookie Johnson and the Magic Johnson Foundation; and the Wayuu Taya Foundation]; and Xernona Clayton and the Trumpet Foundation. Monies that are raised during this event is donated to a local charity.
