Śmiałek is an alternative rock band established in Cracow in 2005 by the actor and singer, Karol Śmiałek together with Paweł Szarek, the composer and the author of the lyrics. Śmiałek effectively eludes terms and labels concerning his music and defines his music as Rock Berlin Kabarett Theater (also "industrial kabarett" or "electro rock kabarett").

Concerts

The band's concerts, which are deeply rooted in the tradition of obscene Berlin cabaret of the 1930s, interchange the elements of the theater, fetish performance and - most of all - the club revue inspired by the achievements of European dadaists from the previous century. Each concert production of the band is an unpredictable show; the hybrid of noise and lyrics, retro and modernity.

Music

The music of the band combines the elements of pre-war, European cabaret music with rock heavy sounds and the elements of industrial, jazz, electro and thespian song.

Recordings

The first release of the band was Żony - maxi EP recorded in Cracow in 2008 in Mikołaj Blajd's Staynia Studio. The EP includes 6 original compositions along with full CD version, seventh bonus cover track Homel (original music - Andrzej Zarycki, lyrics - Ewa Kuryło). Songs included in the album were written during the years 2006-2008 and constitute selective choice of particular compositions which fully combine rock wilderness with lyric and burlesque; clear distillation of band's assumptions. Before being released Żony EP was performed live on stage. It is import_ant to add that the title track Żony was being used in Agata Duda Gracz's "Romeo and Juliet"; spectacle in Cracow STU Theatre, in the season 2008/2009. The first harbinger of the release was the single Untergott, published in January 2009, in form of a free web download. The video clip for the song was made in March 2009. By the end of June 2009 the band gave their fans the opportunity to listen to the EP on the Internet, claiming that the records will be physically available soon and so it happened. In September 2009 Żony EP appeared in music stores signed by independent label Roadkillmusic. The second and, so far, the last single from the EP is the already mentioned Żony with the video clip created in July 2010.

Trivia

In March 2010 Śmiałek performed as a quest at the 31st Actor Song Revision in Wrocław.

Right now Smialek has already finished the production of the material made for the debut longplay which will include 15 compositions.
