Slovenia participated in the Eurovision Song Contest 2012 in Baku, Azerbaijan. The Slovenian entry was selected through two national selections: Misija Evrovizija, a talent selection used to find two finalist singers and EMA 2012, a national final that selected both the singer and the song, both organised by the Slovenian broadcaster Radiotelevizija Slovenija (RTVSLO). Eva Boto represented Slovenia with the song "Verjamem", which failed to qualify from the second semi-final, achieving 17th place with 31 points.

National Final

On 22 June, RTVSLO announced their participation in the Eurovision Song Contest 2012, held in Baku, Azerbaijan.

Two selections determined Slovenia's Eurovision representative. First, the show Misija Evrovizija (Mission Eurovision) was used to select two candidates, and then in EMA 2012 an artist and the song was chosen between the two candidates. Both events were presented by Klemen Slakonja.

Misija Evrovizija

Misija Evrovizija (Mission Eurovision) was a three-month-long selection process on three phases:

  1. Regional Auditions - In 5 Slovene cities: Celje, Novo Mesto, Koper, Maribor, Ljubljana, regional auditions were held, open to any artist older than 16. Producers of ME chose top 130 auditionees to proceed to the next round.
  2. Judges auditions - The 130 artists chosen from the previous round performed in front of 3 judges. 32 contestants were selected to proceed to the next round.
  3. Live Shows - 32 acts competed on live shows, with public votes deciding which ones were eliminated, until two candidates remained.

The names of the four judges that oversaw Misija Evrovizija were disclosed on 8 September:

  • Darja Švajger (singer, representative of Slovenia at the Eurovision Song Contest 1995 and 1999)
  • Jonas Žnidaršič (television personality)
  • Raay (song writer)
  • Tina Marinšek (singer)
  • The show started on 2 October 2011 and finished in January 2012.

    EMA 2012

EMA 2012 was held by RTV SLO on 26 February 2012. Like previous editions of the show, EMA 2012 selected the artist and song. The artist was chosen between two candidates previously selected on Misija Evrovizija.

    Results summary

Due to the Slovenian parliamentary election held on 4 December the 4th semi-final was postponed until 11 December.

    Misija 2012

On New Year's Eve, on 31 December, RTVSLO aired a special recorded show for New Year of Misija Evrovizija. All the top eight competitors of Misija Evrovizija performed and they were joined by former contestants of EMA, hosts Klemen Slakonja, Maja Keuc and Zlatko, and many others.
