Sirish Gurung

Sirish Gurung (born 11 August 1998) is a Nepalese competitive swimmer. He competed at the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, in the men's 100 metre freestyle.

Apart from being a professional swimmer, Gurung is described as a child prodigy. Proficient in around 11 musical instruments, a rap artist, and with an exam aggregate percentage of 83%, Sirish Gurung has displayed his talent marvellously in many fronts. Gurung's parents (Sapana Gurung and Shree Ram Gurung) first recognised the wonder boy's talents when five-year-old little Sirish inquired if he could drive a car. Upon teaching him, little Sirish, just at the age of 6, was able to drive a car and a truck, and ride a bike effortlessly. His inquisitive and curious mind has taken him to places unprecedented for a Nepali boy.

Now, he is only eighteen years old where the Nepali Olympics star aspires to become a doctor and to this he only had to say, "... there is nothing that is going to stop me from practicing medicine. I want to help my people and my country in the best way I can".

Gurung is also known to have a strong and passionate fascination of automobiles. He has modified his own bike (a Royal Enfield) and owns an MV Augusta, which he rides occasionally. Apart from his passion for automobiles, Gurung is a philanthropist, who supported the Nepalese government from time to time during the Gorkha Earthquake (2015) and the Sindhupalchowk Landslides.

Sirish further establishes his versatility by describing himself as an artist who plays around 5 eastern instruments and 6 western ones. His famous rap track "Melamchi ko Pani" was an instant hit among the youth and attests to his artistry.
