Sining Palawan Dance Troupe is a university-based organization established in 2003. The group is considered as one of the cultural arms of the Palawan State University that showcases Philippine traditions through folk dance performance.

History

Sining Palawan Dance Troupe is a university-based organization and considered as one of the cultural arms of the Palawan State University. Taking the name Sining Palawan literally means, Palawan Arts upholds its vision as University Ambassadors for cultural development through quality folk dance performance. Since 2003, the group went through series of transformation before it achieved the status and artistry made it known as "Palawan's Premiere University-based Dance Troupe"

The advocacy towards revitalization of the dance troupe was spearheaded under the leadership of Dr. John Christian S. Jaridn as its Artistic Director. The group's capability to perform was recognized with praise and appreciation as evidence by awards given by the university as well as by other local and international institutions such as the Provincial Government of Palawan, Puerto Princesa City Government, The Philippine Association of State Universities and Colleges and the Department of Tourism.

Today, the Palawan State University - Sining Palawan Dance Troupe continuously shares its mission to express talent, expose culture, explore tradition, and experience learning through music and dance.

Early years

The dance troupe had its international tour in 2006 and 2007 in the United States of America upon the invitation of Sam Houston State University in Texas, Palawan Associations in Las Vegas, and Miami, Florida and the Philippine Consulate Offices in Los Angeles and San Francisco.

The group also participated in the 3rd Philippine Association of State Universities and Colleges (PASUC) National Cultural-Literary Festival last 2006 held in Bulacan where it competed in Maria Clasa and Indigenous Category of Philippine Folk Dance and emerged as 1st and 2nd runner up respectively among the 14 competing regions in the country. In 2008, dance troupe once again competed in the same festival in Philippine Normal University, Manila and emerged as Champion in the traditional dance category besting other regions in the country.

2012: Sayaw Pinoy, PASUC

In 2012, the group competed in the SAYAW PINOY: The National Dance Competition sponsored by the Dance Committee of the National Commission for Culture and the Arts in Manila and won Silver Prize Award. On the same year the group represented Region IV in the 5th PASUC National Cultural Festival held in Manila and emerged as 2nd place in both Indigenous and Rural Category.

2013: Dance Xchange, PAGTITIPON

April 2013, the dance troupe was invited to be one of the performers of the Dance Xchange: The Philippine International Dance Festival and Workshop held at Puerto Princesa City. The group have shown its dancing prowess and collaborated with the best dance companies in the country and abroad.

On the same year the group celebrated its 10th anniversary through a reunion concert dubbed as PAGTITIPON with over 100 performers which includes the alumni, former and undergraduate members, held at the Puerto Princesa City Coliseum.

2014: Nat'l Arts Month, STRASUC, Sayaw Pinoy, and PASUC

In February 2014, Philippine Arts Festival was held in Palawan for the first time in support for the National Arts Month. A month-long celebration of arts festival in Palawan with the theme, “Art on the Edge”. The group partnered with the National Commission for Culture and the Arts, the Provincial Government of Palawan, Palawan State University, and Robinsons Place Palawan.

On the same year the group participated in the first ever Southern Tagalog Regional Association of State Universities and Colleges (STRASUC) Socio Cultural and Literary Contest held in Cavite State University where the group won First Place for the Indigenous Category and Second Place for the Folk Dance Category.

In December of the same year the group also competed in the SAYAW PINOY: The National Dance Competition held in St. Louis University in Baguio City and won Gold Prize Award for the Folk Dance Category.

Just days after competing at the SAYAW PINOY 2014, the Palawan State University - Sining Palawan Dance Troupe along with Sinag Banahaw Cultural Dance Troupe of Sountern Luzon State University represented the Region IV at the 2014 Philippine Association of State Universities and Colleges (PASUC) National Cultural-Literary Festival held in Mindanao University of Science and Technology in Cagayan de Oro City.

2015: Nat'l Arts Month, Int'l Dance Day, KaleiDANCEscope, and SIFF2015

In February 2015, the Sining Palawan Dance Troupe collaborated with some of the finest performing groups in Palawan for the 2nd Philippine Arts Festival in celebration of the National Arts Month with the theme Pride of Place held in the City Coliseum.

In April 29, the group held an hour-long performance at the Robinson's Place Palawan in celebration of the International Day of Dance and National Dance Week, dubbed as YUGYUGAN PARA SA KULTURA NG BAYAN a dance rally in numerous parts of the country where hundreds of dancers, choreographers, school troupes and companies participated, and all together performed the song "Ako ay Filipino".

In July 31, In cooperation with the Physical Education Department of the Palawan State University, the group held a Matinee & Gala performance for its first Season Production for the school year 2015-2016 at the PSU Gymnasium dubbed as KaleiDANCEscope.

In August 2015, Sining Palawan represented the Philippines in the 10th Sabah International Folklore Festival held at Kota Kinabalu, Malaysia. The group won the Chief Minister Award (Silver), competing with different dance groups around the world.
