The Simon Kenton Council (#441) is a Boy Scouts of America council created in 1994 that serves members of the Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts, Venturing, Exploring and in-school programs in central and southern Ohio, and northern Kentucky. The council is divided into eleven districts with headquarters in Columbus, Ohio and additional service centers located in Chillicothe and Portsmouth, Ohio. Simon Kenton Council is part of Area 4 of the Central Region, and is named in honor of frontiersman Simon Kenton.

Organization

The Council serves 22,934 youth across its five key programs. Simon Kenton Council is divided into eleven districts:

  • Arrowhead District serves Northeast Franklin County, Ohio.
  • Buckeye District serves Clintonville, Hilliard, Tri-Village, and Worthington.
  • Capital City District serves Central Franklin County, Ohio.
  • Chief Logan District serves Highland County, Ohio, Jackson County, Ohio, Pike County, Ohio, Ross County, Ohio, and Vinton County, Ohio.
  • Chief Tarhe District serves Fairfield County, Ohio and Hocking County, Ohio.
  • Darby Creek District serves Madison County, Ohio and Union County, Ohio.
  • Delaware District serves Delaware County, Ohio.
  • Licking District serves Licking County, Ohio.
  • Ohio Valley District serves Fayette County, Ohio, Pickaway County, Ohio, and Southwest Franklin County, Ohio.
  • Tecumseh District serves Adams County, Ohio, Lawrence County, Ohio, Scioto County, Ohio, and Greenup County, Kentucky
  • Tri-Creek District serves Eastern and Southeastern Franklin County, Ohio.
  • Camps

    Simon Kenton Council operates six camps. Camp Lazarus (40°13.988′N 83°2.713′W), located in Delaware, Ohio, is the home of the summer Cub Scout resident camp. Chief Logan Reservation (39°12.655′N 82°44.221′W), located in Ray, Ohio, and Camp Falling Rock (40°10.494′N 82°18.555′W), located in Newark, Ohio, feature two Boy Scout summer camps. Camp Oyo (38°43′33″N 83°9′9″W), located in Portsmouth, Ohio, hosts a high adventure camp. Each camp also hosts numerous activities throughout the year. Camp Otter Run (40°18.726′N 83°36.985′W), located in Marysville, Ohio, and Camp Madison Lake, located in London, Ohio, are smaller camps.

    Boy Scouting

    There are many programs in Simon Kenton Council. Each year there are approximately 300 new Eagle Scouts.

    Venturing

    Simon Kenton Council is one of the 7 councils to earn the 2007 Central Region Venturing Standards of Excellence Award. It has had a Venturing Officers Association since 2000. Its Officers have gone on to serve at many Regional and Area Leadership roles. Annually it provides many events for Venturings such as:

  • Wilderness First Aid Training Weekend
  • Venturing C.U.P. (Challenge 'Ur Peers)
  • Silver V
  • Camp Oyo High Adventure Camp

  • Annual Venturing Banquet
  • Sea Scouting

    Simon Kenton Council has had an interesting history as the Council only has rivers and lakes for water. Sea Scouting has only existed before World War II and after the 21st Century. There were never any Sea Explorers in this Council but there have been eleven Quartermasters.

    The council is served by the Tecumseh Lodge (#65) of the Order of the Arrow, the Boy Scouting program's national honor society. It is part of the C4-B section and participates in its conclave each year. Its chapters are:
